Tillandsia seleriana pup
$14.95 – $16.95
This lovely air plant requires moderate watering and it’s best to mist rather than soak as the bulbous base can collect water inside and cause it to rot. Mist 3-5 times per week, more when it’s dry and less when it’s humid. Let it dry on its side to allow access water to flow out of the base. Be sure the air plant is dry within 4 hours after watering. This species prefers a lot of light and can do well with direct sun for a couple hours per day.
Each Tillandsia is hand picked and cared for with love while waiting to meet it’s new owner. Please Note that each Tillandsia will vary slightly in shape, size and color and can have small blemishes as they are real, living plants. We always inspect each one thoroughly to ensure that the plants are 100% healthy before sending.
• Native to Southern Mexico and Central America
• Bloom color: Purple with Pink Inflorescence
• Between 6-8 inches tall
Tillandsia seleriana pup is a fast growing air plant that has a very large base and fuzzy leaves that curve like a hook. This species is grown as a pup, which means it’s a clone grown from a parent plant, just like most Tillandsias. We also sell the seleriana grown from seed and although both the pup and seedling are the same species they can look quite different from each other. The seedling is also less common and takes much longer to grow. See the seedling here. The seleriana can grow quite large and their blooms can be quite spectacular as seen in the photo with our owner Lalita. Mount this species to driftwood or rocks or hang from twine.
New To Air Plants? Learn More!
What are air plants? Their technical name is Tillandsia and they are one of the few plants out there that don’t require dirt to thrive. They are epiphytes which means they use their roots as grabbers to attach to trees and rocks instead of using them in the dirt. Some air plant species actually do use their roots in dirt but there aren’t too many like that. Air plants receive nutrients through their leaves by way of tiny little trichomes. Water and air both can have the nutrients they need to thrive and grow bigger. Air plants are very slow growing compared to most other plants and you might not see any noticeable growth for a year or two! Air plants are also related to the more commonly known bromeliad which you will see quite often at nurseries or grocery stores.
